The creation of Eve (Genesis 2:21-25)

The creation of Eve (Genesis 2:21-25)

Here we will present you with the story of the creation of Eve as is in the Book of Genesis (Bereshit).

The event, it should be mentioned, takes place after the events of the Lilith's creation by God, our Lord, and her rebellion which we coverred in our article on the portion of the Alphabet of Ben Sira.

Genesis/Bereshit 2

21. So the Eternal God cast a sleep upon the Human (Adam); and while he slept, [God] took one of his sides* and closed up the flesh at that side.

22. And the Eternal God fashioned the side that had been taken from the Human into a woman, bringing her to the Human.

23. Then the Human said, "This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one shall be called the Woman, for from the Man** was she taken."

24. Hence a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, so that they become one flesh.

25. The two of them were naked, the Human and his wife,*** yet they felt no shame.

*Adam's ribs, and afterwards God closed the flesh at that site.

**The original Hebrew text uses the word-play of Ish (Man) and the derived from it Isha (Woman).

***The Hebrew word Isha (lit. woman) can also mean wife, as in this case.
